Located in the Douro village of Santa Marta de Penaguião (Régua 8km). A family-run B&B, ideal for a country escape. Those seeking peace, rural tranquility, good walking country and a down-to-earth atmosphere will love it here. It has several hectares of vineyards and, in the harvest, grapes are trodden by foot in granite “lagares”, an old tradition still used in the Douro for making premium wines. The farm, which produces Port, Douro wine and olive oil on a small scale, has been in the family for four generations. It is run by Alice and Filipe, who will welcome you to their home, show how their wine is made and give hints on the best places for walking and visiting in the region. The house has 4 bedrooms, which can be taken individually on a B&B basis, or one could rent the whole house for self-catering. It has antique furnishings, kitchen, living room, dining room, games room, pool, garden and even the old winery and cellar in the basement. Down-to-earth, home from home.

Although not a course as such, wine-tasting is a must in the Douro. The history behind Port-making is fascinating, as is learning about how vines are cultivated and wines made. The Douro wine region is a remarkable and quite unique area.

Extra Notes
To give greater freedom to explore the area and to save time, we recommend coming by car. However, it is also easy to get here by train: Porto to Régua, then taxi to us. This we only recommend if you are coming for a couple of days to be based at the house- but not if you are wanting to explore the area. The train carries its scenic journey up to Pinhão and Tua, further up the Douro river.

"L'accueil est tres humain, nous avons eu l'impression d'être reçu par un membre de notre famille. Le petit dejeuner est tres bon, l'endroit où se trouve cette Quinta est tres calme et typique de la vallée du Douro. Le propriétair, Filipe est un homme cultivé et plein d'humour." Guests from France, 2013
"Home from home in the Douro region. Family-run. A charming house, with gardens and pool. Nice views over hills and vineyards. There is an old cellar in the basement of the house- very typical and interesting to see. Easy access by car up the hill from Peso da Regua. A good base to explore the area. Self-catering or B&B options available. A car is recommended to get here and around." Guest from UK, 2012
