Extra notes
The Treehouse and Yurt have very simple camping style kitchens, with gas cooker, along with utensils in kiosk-type shelters.
Set in a valley and surrounded by wooded hillsides, the setting is totally private, secluded, reminiscent of Africa and outback Austalia. Apart from a couple of small adobe houses, there are no other houses in view. Hills have dirt tracks, with about 1km to the main road. There are walking trails, on steep hillsides, covered in cork oak and flowering cistus. Below the main house at the bottom of the valley is a small stream, with abundant vegeation, a natural dammed swimming lake and terraces with lawns and walnut trees. Total peace and tranquility.

Outdoorsy types will love it here. Rugged hills, birdsong, brilliant stars at night. The house is in the foothills of the Monchique range- the highest in the Algarve, and still very traditional. Great for walking, mountain and road biking. 7km away is the charming provincial town of Aljezur, an old Moorish town on a hill with castle, whitewashed village, above a little river and farmland. Just fifteen minutes from the beaches of Arrifana, Monte Clerigo and Amoreira. Beaches are long and empty and renowned for excellent surfing conditions. This is a quiet corner of the Algarve, charming, unspoilt.

Not Available

In Aljezur and the region it is possible to do yoga, wellness and artistic courses. Some of these are seasonal, only in the summer, others are easier to find in places such as Lagos. Here, rather than courses, it is a good place to see traditional local life on the farms and small rural towns. Donkeys are still used to plough small holdings and locals can be seen tending the fields. Little local restaurants have typical dishes of the region- very down-to-earth, including seafood from the nearby coastline.

Extra Notes
7km from Aljezur on the road to Monchique. After about 1km up a steep section, look for a small hand-painted sign saying "Penedo" on the left, where you can see a dirt track meeting the main road. Access to the house is down this dirt track, which is about 1-2 km long. It can be done in a regular car, driving slowly. Stony, it won't get muddy in the rain. Further directions can be given upon booking. A car is necessary, for being in an isolated spot and for exploring the area. Location on map.

Alexander Corrie (Hideaway Portugal), November 2012. Walnut Tree Farm took me back to my Africa and outback Australia days. 7km out of Aljezur, a dirt track winding down the hillsides, clothed in cork oaks and cistus. At the bottom of the valley, a small stream and an Algarve farmhouse perched on a rise and overlooking a narrow valley with the farm's terraces and walnut trees. Stunning views of encircling hills- no houses or roads in sight. The main house is charming for its down-to-earth, no frills, feel. Spacious double rooms, kitchen leading out to verandah, cosy living room with country fireplace. Super natural swimming lake. Tree house- adventurous, fun, up a walnut tree. Lovely setting for a yurt on a private spot below old cork oaks, deck over a stream, camping-style kitchen. A paradise for nature lovers. Very special spot. Richard, who found his place whilst out cycling one day is very laid back, friendly, knows all the best areas for surfing, cycling, exploring. Somewhere to come back to.
